I can understand how you both feel but speaking as an older student who has no professional expierence. I have to say I see the opposite. I see the younger students who have some real life expierence. They may have better basic skills, but lack the focus and drive to be a serious cook. I do agree these shows glamorize the industry and i do see the students who enter class without a clue what they are getting into and drop out after one class. I think you are just lumping everyone into group. You need to look at everyone on an individual bases. For if you can endure the riggers of culinary school and complete the program you deserve the respect and admiration of your peers.

I completely agree, and its nice to have someone who feels the same and passionately about it. I have a cake decorating business, and I would say 90% of people ask me "do you watch duff?" "don't your just love charm city cakes?"

Nothing against duff, hes a great guy and makes lots of money. But his business produces art NOT cakes.

Also, talking to a lot of my classmates. they go into school with absolutely NO background and have barely even made macaroni and cheese before. Its great to want to be in the food industry but its frustrating to have to work with students that should not be there, being held behind by these people. I know that seems harsh, but its not that hard to at least work somewhere before you go to school.

I think that these 'reality tv' shows, which are not even that real, only show the glamorous side of different jobs. Promoting people to join a world that isn't quite what they think.
