Although my mother denies it, I’m convinced she must have given me a strip of bacon every time I got upset as a child. How else do you explain my seemingly primordial love for cured meat from the side of a pig? So, it comes as no surprise that David Lebovitz’s recipe for Candied Bacon Ice Cream inspired a trip to Arby’s for an emergency bacon fix (don’t scoff–the peppery bacon in Arby’s Ultimate BLT, is an excellent bit of non fast-food fast food).

Lebovitz’s recipe brings up an interesting question for a bacon lover like me. When it comes down to it, would I rather have my bacon in a traditional savory preparation (baked oysters with slab bacon and breadcrumbs for instance) or a non-traditional sweet recipe like bacon ice cream? The obvious answer is, it doesn’t matter.

Bacon makes everything better.
