TGIF ,

Authors Dalyn Miller and Larry Donovan said: We would like to thank every bartender who has ever said to us: "Here try this, you will love it" and we'd like to thank every bartender who's ever said the words "This one's on me."

I would like to thank both of them for their contribution this week. I hope you have had a few chuckles and learned about a few new drinks. November 22:

We've all heard the question: where were you when President Kennedy was shot? Those who were around all have an answer, and it's usually preceded by the statement "I'll never forget it". But the only one it really mattered to was Kennedy himself, unfortunately. He was in Dallas on this day in 1963, when he was assassinated while riding in a motorcade beside his wife Jackie. The nation mourned the beloved president, and the shooting still mystifies the nation. Have a Presidential Margarita to commemorate JFK.

Presidential Margarita

Ingredients:

1 1/2 ounces brandy
1 1/2 ounces orange liqueur
1 1/2 ounces tequila
juice of 1 lime
1 slice lime

Preparation:

Pour the brandy, liqueur, and tequila into a large glass and add ice. Rim a margarita glass with lime juice and salt, fill with ice and garnish with a lime slice. Carefully pour the contents of the large glass into the salted margarita glass, leaving the salt undisturbed.

November 27:

On this day in 1978, San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and City Supervisor Harvey Milk were shot to death inside City Hall by former supervisor Dan White. It was a horrifying crime, but as our mothers used to say, search for the cream filling, which, believe it or not, this assassination actually had!

As a key piece of his defense, White's uncharacteristic diet of Twinkies and Coca-Cola was used as evidence of depression leading to the crime. Thus the infamous "Twinkie defense" was born, causing many to misinterpret it and believe they were saying that Twinkies caused the crime. Evil, evil Twinkie!

2 ounces vanilla vodka
1/4 ounce sweet vermouth

December 16:

Remember the tea parties from when you were a little kid? Miniature teacups, teapots, little cakes? Well, when Boston threw its very own Tea Party on this day in 1773, it was a lot like that. Okay, not really; as a matter of fact, it was nothing like that. You see, it was all about taxation and the British importers undercutting the prices of local merchants. Fed up, the Bostonians boarded ships loaded with incoming tea and destroyed 342 crates of it by dumping it into Boston Harbor. This was all done without the loss of a single life, so it was very civilized, just like a tea party!

Boston Tea Party

Ingredients:

1/2 ounce gin
1/2 ounce rum
1/2 ounce vodka
1/2 ounce Triple Sec
1/2 ounce amaretto
1/2 ounce coffee liqueur
1/2 ounce orange liqueur
2 ounces sweet and sour mix
5 ounces cola
1 lemon wedge

Preparation:

Combine all the ingredients (except the cola and lemon wedge) in a Collins glass with ice and shake. Top with cola, garnish with a lemon wedge and serve.
