California chefs are featured in a new diet book.
Psychotherapist Haven Logan, Ph. D., a specialist in weight management, has created an easy-to-follow weight management program—it’s not just a diet—based on the delicious, wholesome dishes that have become known as California wine country cuisine. And, yes, wine is an integral part of this diet for those who choose to drink wine.
As one can guess from the title of her new book, The California Wine Country Diet: The Indulgent Approach to Managing Your Weight, this is not your normal, boring weight management program. Readers are urged to give up the notion that they have to deny themselves the pleasures of appetizing foods and wines in order to reach and maintain a healthy weight.
As Chef John Ash, recipient of the James Beard Foundation Award, says in his foreword to the book, “In the wine country way of eating you do not have to deny yourself pleasure to eat healthily.”
One of the most delightful aspects of The California Wine Country Diet is its tour through the various wine producing areas of California. Readers visit the best wine country restaurants and their chefs—from the quaint Benbow Inn nestled in the northern redwoods down to the Santa Barbara area’s Los Olivos Café which was made famous in the movie "Sideways." Each chef offers healthy recipes easily made at home as well as wine-pairing suggestions.
Logan urges the dieter to “Give yourself a treat and try at least one or two of these amazing restaurant recipes every week, even if you’ve never considered yourself a cook.”
