World Chefs "Cooking for Life" Promotes Accessibility for Disabled Travelers

NEW YORK, June 5, 2006 – Summer is a season for traveling, but for millions with disabilities, choices of destinations are limited. Many popular attractions including the wonders of the world are inaccessible to the disabled. To raise awareness of this issue, World Chefs "Cooking for Life" is hosting a culinary event "The Living Pyramids Tour" in Cairo, Egypt. Proceeds from the event will be used to promote accessibility programs in Egypt and other popular tourist attractions.
During the four-day event, from July 18-21, guests will enjoy dinners prepared by 21 internationally renowned chefs from 18 countries. Ingredients used will be from the local markets purchased that day. Sitting in the shadow of the pyramids, guests will be entertained with Egyptian music and dance by local performers.

"The Living Pyramids Tour" is the first of a series of culinary events presented by World Chefs "Cooking for Life," a non-profit organization founded by Chef Vikas Khanna, whose mission is to bring the world together through food. He has received a number of accolades for his humanitarian work and was honored with the prestigious "Access to Freedom Award" from The Society for Accessible Travel and Hospitality (SATH). Past honorees include President George W. Bush and The Prince Charles, Prince of Wales.

Born with misaligned legs, Mr. Khanna understands the difficulties of what many consider basic mobility. He is passionate about removing physical and behavioral barriers for people with disabilities.

"It is imperative to clear the hurdles that restrict disabled persons from accessing some of the most beautiful places in the world," said Mr. Khanna. "In order to achieve this, we need worldwide involvement and support. This event, while showing the beauty of Egypt and its pyramids, will expose difficulties that disabled travelers encounter. I have found that most people have a desire to help when they learn of these issues. Awareness is the first fundamental step to breaking barriers."
Collaborating in this effort are SATH and Egypt Has It All. SATH aims to raise awareness of the needs of travelers with disabilities. Egypt Has It All is a travel agency that provides specialized tour packages to accommodate people with disabilities.
