SAKONNET SALUTES THE SUMMER:
A Tempting Fete To Benefit Advancement of Women Chefs & Restaurateurs
Summers in the Northeast seem to center around casual, comfortable food and drink: barbeques and clam bakes, gin-and-tonics and local brews. However, occasional decadence is also welcomed. Pleasantly, Sakonnet Vineyards and Women Chefs and Restaurateurs (WCR) have decided to team up for a summer afternoon showcase of culinary creations by nationally and locally renowned women chefs. The aim of this fete is to support the education and advancement of women in culinary fields.
On June 25, 2006, under a tent in the midst of grapevines at New England’s oldest and largest premium winery, Sakonnet Salutes the Summer: A Tempting Fete will feature dozens of tasting stations, Sakonnet wines, chefs from across the country and an expansive silent auction. Hosted by Susan and Earl Samson, proprietors of Sakonnet Vineyards, and sponsored by Alaskan Seafood Marketing Institute, American Lamb Board, American Roland Food Corp, and Cabot Creamery, proceeds from the event will benefit WCR’s Scholarship and Internship Program.
Participating chefs include Angie Armenise, Twist, Providence; Anne Quatrano, Bacchanalia/Floataway Cafe/Star Provisions, Atlanta; Christine Keff, Flying Fish, Seattle; Cynthia Keller, Restaurant du Village, Chester, CT; Helene Kennan, Bon Appetit at the Getty Center and Getty Villa, Los Angeles; Laura Brennan, Caffe Umbra, Boston; Lee Napoli, Sandrine’s, Cambridge; Melissa Kelly, Primo, Rockland, ME/Orlando, FL/Tucson, AZ; Molly Hanson, Excelsior/Grill 23 & Bar, Boston; Nora Pouillon, Restaurant Nora/Asia Nora, Washington, DC; Rachel Klein, OM Restaurant and Lounge, Cambridge and Amy Visco, Ellington’s, Sanibel, FL.
The food, wine, and worthwhile cause are sure to make Sakonnet Salutes the Summer a perfect way to spend an early-summer day. Chefs Nora Pouillon and Chris Keff are available for interviews.
