“2006 A TASTE OF SPAIN” RECIPE CONTEST ANNOUNCED
Winner to attend “Spain and the World Table” Conference at CIA Greystone
NEW YORK, NY, June 2006 --- The world’s most knowledgeable chefs look to Spain as the source of inspiration and the finest culinary products and recipe ingredients. Starting in June, Foods from Spain launches the “2006 A Taste of Spain” recipe contest for professional chefs and culinary students.
This year’s top professional chef will win an all-expense paid trip to the 2006 Worlds of Flavor “Spain and the World Table” conference at the historic Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in St. Helena, Calif., the country’s premier forum on world cuisines and culinary flavor trends for foodservice, beverage and hospitality professionals. Conference attendees will have unprecedented access to a who’s who of leading chefs from Spain and the US including Ferran Adrià, Thomas Keller and José Andrés as well as top food writers, winemakers and other authorities on Spanish food and wine.
All five winners will receive cash prizes ranging from $250 to $1,000 along with cookware from Fagor, silicone bake ware by Lékué, Spanish cookbooks from William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollinsPublishers and Spanish product from Source Atlantique.
The featured ingredients from Spain are sure to inspire professional and student chefs: Spanish olives and extra virgin olive oils, piquant piquillo peppers and serrano ham, pimentón (smoked paprika), saffron, sherry wine vinegar and Spanish D.O. cheeses. The ingredients may be used as sweet or savory applications for any course but the featured ingredient or ingredients from Spain must play a starring role in the dish.
The contest is open to professional chefs and cooks working in the food industry within the fifty United States as well as students enrolled in U.S. professional culinary schools. Entrants must be 18 years or older by the date of the contest entry deadline and also must be legal residents of the United States.
“2006 A Taste of Spain” is sponsored by Foods from Spain, part of the Trade Commission of Spain, to promote the increased use of, and familiarity with, food products imported from Spain. Co-sponsors are Fagor, Lékué, and William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollinsPublishers.
For official rules, a complete list of products, entry submission details and further information, visit www.tasteofspaincontest.com. The entry deadline is midnight Eastern Daylight Time, August 29, 2006.
