Health and Nutrition Tips for 2006; ARAMARK Offers Suggestions for Staying Healthy in the New Year

PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 9, 2005-- For most Americans, nutrition and exercise goals will top New Year's resolution lists for 2006. ARAMARK, one of North America's largest food and vending operators, presents health and nutrition tips for helping you stick to your resolutions:

Drink More Water

Although most people understand the benefits of water, most of us still don't drink enough of it during the day. Water has zero calories, zero caffeine, zero carbs, and is the perfect beverage to curb your appetite and reduce hunger cravings.

Snack Wisely

Many people find that eating a couple of small snacks throughout the day helps them to make healthier choices at meal time. At the office, many healthy snacks can be found in vending machines such as low fat granola bars, pretzels, trail mix and baked chips.

Drink Your Coffee

Recent studies indicate that drinking coffee in moderation can be good for your health. For example, drinking four or more cups of coffee a day may slightly lower your risk of developing high blood pressure and may also contribute to healthier blood sugar levels. Do the calories in coffee have you worried? Use nonfat milk or cream in your coffee, limit your use of sugar, or switch to alternative sweeteners.

Try Tea

Tea is a nocalorie, nofat beverage and a natural source of antioxidants which helps the body fight harmful free radicals which may lead to cancer and heart disease. Drinking tea has also been shown to improve digestion, strengthen the immune system and boost metabolism. Try it hot with nonfat milk or honey, or chilled with lemon and artificial sweetener.

Get Moving!

Remember that every little bit of physical activity helps your health. Try parking a little farther from work than usual, or get off the bus one stop earlier. Emailing or phoning your coworker may be more convenient, but walking across the office to deliver the message in person gets your blood pumping.

Remember: Everything in Moderation

The key to keeping your resolutions is making the correct choices most of the time. But that won't always happen, so be prepared to deal with your cravings. For example, if you want soda instead of water, don't deny yourself, but pick diet soda instead. If you need that midafternoon chocolate break, choose a chocolate chip granola bar instead of a candy bar. And if you truly can't resist that candy bar? Eat one and move on. Remember: Stay motivated and take all things in moderation.
